Dr. Devprakash Choudhary is India’s first surgeon to be awarded an M.Ch. in Organ Transplantation. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Renal Transplant Surgery at PGIMER, Chandigarh, one of India’s leading kidney and pancreas transplantation center and the national apex center for pancreas transplantation. An alumnus of AIIMS New Delhi (MS) and PGIMER (M.Ch.), he serves on The Transplantation Society Early Career Members Committee (TTS-ECMC) and previously served as an IPTA Multi-Organ Transplant Fellow.
His clinical and academic interests include multiorgan transplantation, pediatric kidney transplantation, and pancreas transplantation. Since joining the faculty at PGIMER, he has been actively involved in developing a multidisciplinary pediatric transplant programme aimed at improving access, continuity of care, and long-term outcomes. His interests also extend to emerging technologies in transplantation, including 3D printing for surgical planning and education, and artificial intelligence for donor-recipient matching and outcome prediction.
His research focuses on expanding the donor pool through normothermic machine perfusion (NMP), utilization of high-risk and marginal donor organs, improving long-term graft survival, and translating surgical innovation and research into practical, patient-centered transplant care.
Dr. Choudhary has received more than a dozen prestigious international awards for his contributions to transplant surgery. He is an invited peer reviewer for leading transplant journals and international conferences and is actively involved with professional societies including TTS, ASTS, ESOT, IPTA, and IPITA.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Choudhary is a committed academician, long-distance runner, yoga practitioner, and boxing enthusiast.
